Afternoon Adventures! from 1-4pm for kids 5-12 with an adult

***Due to bad weather on June 18, this program was moved to June 25. We completed the previously scheduled suburban life program at the Kinder House on June 18.

NOTE for JUNE 25 program: Meet at Garden Plot 132 at High Ridge Knolls Park in Des Plaines.

June 25: The afternoon will focus on farming. Children will learn about the landscape and types of farming in and around Des Plaines in the 19th and 20th centuries. Participants will meet at Garden Plot 132, which is located at High Ridge Knolls Park, 601 S. Westgate Road, in Des Plaines. The group will learn about plowing and planting and will scatter and plant seeds and hoe the garden. The children will use watering cans and various garden tools.

Summer afternoon program returns to the History Center!

Afternoon Adventures, an educational and fun program, will start up again at the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson Street, on Wednesdays, June 18-August 13, from 1- 4 p.m. Children and families are invited to attend the sessions, which will focus on agriculture and industry in and around Des Plaines.

“This will be an exciting time at the museum,” said Sarah DePuy, summer intern at the History Center. “Children and adults will experience learning and fun as they work in a garden, take a trip to a local greenhouse, and create model houses using recycled materials.”

Cost is $4 per child for non-members and $2 per child for members. Participants are welcome to attend any or all of the sessions. The program is designed for children, ages 5-12, with an adult. Come out and spend an afternoon at the History Center! For more information, please call 847-391-5399.

Afternoon Adventures is sponsored by the Des Plaines History Center and the Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines. The History Center gratefully acknowledges operating support from the City of Des Plaines, the Des Plaines Park District, its members, and other contributors.
