Coffee Talk: Redlined

A Memoir of Race, Change, and Fractured Community in 1960s Chicago

Author and documentary producer Linda Gartz will talk about her award-winning book, Redlined, and the family letters, diaries, photos, and more she discovered after her parents’ deaths. This century-spanning trove inspired her to research the causes behind her parents' unraveling marriage and the forces that triggered her West Side Chicago neighborhood's rapid racial change. The presentation will include excerpts from Redlined, details on the discriminatory federal lending policies that segregated America, and original 1940s redlining maps on display.
