Meet the
Executive Director

Dennis J. Murray is the Executive Director of the Des Plaines History Center.

Dennis brings to the position an impressive record of leadership in Chicago’s museum and nonprofit community, along with a deep commitment to preserving and sharing local history.

His career includes distinguished service as Financial Administrator at the Field Museum of Natural History, one of the world’s leading institutions of scientific and cultural research, where he was responsible for cash management, grant compliance, and supporting key museum initiatives. He later served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, where he guided financial strategy, implemented operational improvements, and contributed to the museum’s educational and environmental mission.

With extensive experience in fiscal management, organizational leadership, and public engagement, Murray is well positioned to guide the Des Plaines History Center into its next chapter of growth. In his new role, he will focus on strengthening community partnerships, expanding educational outreach, and enhancing the Center’s visibility as a cultural hub for residents and visitors alike.

“I’m honored to join the Des Plaines History Center and to help preserve and celebrate the stories that define our community,” said Murray. “History is not just about the past—it’s a bridge to understanding who we are today and what we can build together for the future.”
