Reproduction Fees
The History Center archival collection is open to the public, free of charge, Wednesdays through Fridays 9am-4pm or by appointment. Individuals are encouraged to do their own research on-site free of charge. DPHC staff will provide free assistance in terms of locating general information of interest.
For more indepth research provided by a staff member, an hourly research fee will be applied after the first 45 minutes of research. Professionals doing environmental impact studies, previous land-use surveys, etc. are required to do their own research, which would not entail a fee. There are also fees for photocopies and scans of archival materials.

Archives
The History Center collects and preserves paper-based artifacts, photographs and documentary media that relate to the history of Des Plaines. The archives contain local Des Plaines-specific obituaries, newspaper articles, photographs, cemetery listings, family histories, genealogical research, plats and maps. Genealogists, students, homeowners interested in house and land research, news agencies and environmental site researchers are among the frequent users of the History Center's archival materials. The archives are open to the public during weekday operating hours. Call ahead or email for specific requests or to make an appointment.

The collection includes more than 31,000 cataloged objects and documents from the 19th- and 20th-century that represent Des Plaines and its history. General collecting areas include family and personal artifacts, tools and equipment, furnishings, and recreational objects. The collection also includes contemporary items related to people and places in Des Plaines.
