Facilities
Originally the home of hardware merchant Benjamin F. Kinder, the Kinder House has been operated by the Historical Society since 1968. This modified Queen Anne style home is restored to a typical 1907 appearance and can be toured, upon request, during the History Center's operating hours. Learn about how the house was moved from its original location, find out about electric lighting, central vacuuming systems and much more on a guided tour.
The Fisher-Wright House (1916)
The Fisher-Wright House was donated to the Des Plaines Historical Society in 2002 by sisters Nancy Wright Meyer and Lois Wright. The three bedroom bungalow located at 815 Center Street was constructed in 1916 by Harry Bending and was the home of Ruth and Louis A. Wright until their passing in 2001.
The Visitor Center, formerly Des Plaines Savings & Loan (1952)
The Visitor Center, located next door to the Kinder House, features rotating exhibits on a variety of subjects, houses the Society's archival collection, and "Yesterdays," the museum gift shop.
